Descrizione:Cyclopropanes are a class of natural products that can be found in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Cyclopropanes are synthesized by non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) and cyclopropane synthases (CPSs). The biosynthesis of cyclopropanes is the result of a modular, combinatorial biosynthetic pathway that starts with proline. This process involves the formation of an iminium ion intermediate, which undergoes ring closure to form an epoxide. This epoxide then reacts with an amino acid to yield a cyclopropane ring. There are many mechanisms for producing these natural products, but they all involve the same basic steps: condensation of two molecules and reduction of a carbonyl group. Some targets for cyclopropane compounds include G protein-coupled receptors, ion channels, enzymes, and DNA-binding proteins.
