It binds to the active site of human cytochrome P450, which is an enzyme that metabolizes many drugs and other foreign substances. 4-Chloro-3-nitroacetophenone inhibits the reaction by binding to the chloride ion and preventing it from leaving the enzyme's active site, which is necessary for its function.
