3-Chloro-5-methylpyridine is an aryl chloride that can be synthesized by chlorination of 3-chloropyridine. The chloride ion in this molecule chelates with the silicon atom, forming a bimetallic system. This compound has been used as a precursor for the synthesis of benzoxazoles and heteroaryl groups.
