This compound reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to give the corresponding ester, which is then hydrolyzed by hydroxyl group to form the corresponding carboxylic acid. 3-Cyclohexylpropionic acid also reacts with cationic surfactants such as benzalkonium chloride to form the corresponding quaternary ammonium salt.
