Descrizione:2-Chloro-p-xylene is a halide of an aromatic hydrocarbon. It is used as a precursor to other chemicals such as 2,4,6-trichlorophenol. 2-Chloro-p-xylene reacts with chloride gas in the presence of hydrochloric acid to produce chlorobenzene, which has been shown to be biocompatible and used for diagnostic purposes. The reaction proceeds through the formation of an intermediate chloride molecule that subsequently reacts with the chlorine atom in 2-chloro-p-xylene. This method is efficient due to the ease of separation of chlorobenzene from unreacted 2-chloro-p-xylene and chloride.
