• Descrizione: 1,5-Cyclooctadiene is a substrate molecule that can be used in the preparation of sodium carbonate. The molecule has a helical structure and exhibits an x-ray absorption spectrum with a single structure. The nucleophilic attack of the chloride ion on the carbonyl group leads to the formation of an intermediate which is then oxidized to produce 1,5-cyclooctadienesulfonic acid. The reaction mechanism for this process involves coordination geometry and molecular orbital theory. 1,5-Cyclooctadiene is also used as a starting point for the synthesis of palladium complexes and naphthalenes. This molecule has been shown to exhibit NMR spectra that are characteristic of p2 groups.
