It is used in the synthesis of drugs, pesticides, dyes and other organic compounds. 3-Chloro-2-methoxypyridine can be synthesized by reacting hydrochloric acid with 2-methoxyethanol. This chemical also inhibits elimination reactions by acting as an acylating agent or as a nucleophile. 3-Chloro-2-methoxypyridine has been shown to react with furan to form a cycloaddition product at low temperatures. The solubility of 3-chloro-2 methoxypyridine is increased when it is dissolved in solvents such as isopropanol or methoxy.
