The Baeyer-Villiger oxidation is a two step process that involves the conversion of benzoyl chloride to difluoroacetophenone and then to 4-(2,4-difluorophenyl)phenol. 4-(2,4-Difluorophenyl)phenol has been shown to have analgesic properties in animal studies with rats and mice. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis at high doses.
