It is used as a precursor in the production of pharmaceutical preparations and other organic compounds. The compound is available in two isomeric forms: cis (1,3-dichloro-4-fluorobenzane) and trans (1,4-dichloro-2-fluorobenzene). The cis form can be synthesized by reacting ethylene diamine with hydrochloric acid followed by chlorination. The trans form can be synthesized by reacting an acylation reaction with hydrogen chloride and acetyl chloride. 1,3-Dichloro-4-fluorobenzene can also be produced from benzoyl chloride and diazonium salt in an acylation reaction.
