4-Dodecylaniline is a proton-binding fluorescent probe with a linear regression analysis. It has been used to study the binding constants of amines and diphenyl ethers. 4-Dodecylaniline has also been used as a luminescent probe to study the hydrogen bond between water molecules and hydroxide ions in human serum. 4-Dodecylaniline has been shown to be an effective population growth indicator, being able to detect population size changes in less than 10 minutes. This compound is highly sensitive and can easily be detected by optical imaging techniques.
