It also affects the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and protein. This process can be reversed by adding calcium ions to the solution. 7-Dimethylamino-4-methylcoumarine also has a reversible enzyme inhibition effect on rat liver microsomes at concentrations above 100 μmol/L. The irreversible enzyme inhibition effect is observed in mitochondrial membrane potential at concentrations above 1 mmol/L. The irreversible inhibition effect is due to hydrogen bonding with hydroxyl groups in crystalline cellulose, which leads to decreased production of ATP.
