2,4-Dihydroxy-3,3-dimethylbutanoic acid is a synthetic organic compound that belongs to the group of medicinal drugs. It is used in the synthesis of pantolactone, which is an intermediate for the production of synthetic cortisone. 2,4-Dihydroxy-3,3-dimethylbutanoic acid has been shown to be an intermediate in the biosynthesis of corynebacterium glutamicum and porcine pancreatic lipase. This compound is also a substrate for pancreatic lipase in acidic solutions and in the reaction solution.
