The mechanism of action for this drug has been shown to be due to its ability to inhibit the release of acetylcholine from nerve terminals by blocking voltage-sensitive sodium channels. 5,5-Diphenylhydantoin sodium salt can also cause fetal bovine serum disease when administered intravenously or intramuscularly in pregnant animals. It also causes experimental carcinogenic potential in laboratory animals.br>
