Dibromoacetonitrile is an antimicrobial agent that is used for disinfection. It inhibits the growth of microorganisms by inactivating enzymes and disrupting their cellular membranes. Dibromoacetonitrile has been shown to have a long-term toxicity effect on the testes, liver, and kidneys. Dibromoacetonitrile has also been shown to cause genotoxic effects in animal cells, including DNA strand breaks and chromosomal aberrations.
