In the presence of an acid catalyst, this molecule forms hydrogen bonds with other molecules or ions to form chelate rings. These rings are stable and can be used as a catalyst for chemical reactions. N,N'-Dimethylquinacridone has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential in thp-1 cells and to increase the number of excitons. It also emits light when polymer films are exposed to ultraviolet radiation.
