3,5-Dibromopyridine-4-carboxaldehyde is a product of sequential electrophilic fluorination. It is an electrophile that reacts with metal halides to form the corresponding metalated pyridines. 3,5-Dibromopyridine-4-carboxaldehyde can be synthesized by reacting 3,5-dibromo-1H-pyridine with excess lithium chloride in ether at low temperature. The yield of this reaction is high and the product can be purified by recrystallization from hexane.
3,5-Dibromopyridine-4-carboxaldehyde can also be synthesized by reacting 2,6-dichloroquinoxaline with silver nitrate in methanol at room temperature. This reaction gives a higher yield than the previous one but requires more work for purification.
