The uptake of 2,4-dibromophenol into cells is mediated by the cytochrome P450 enzyme system. This compound also has a toxic effect on human liver cells and is excreted through urine samples. 2,4-Dibromophenol binds to DNA and causes it to undergo hydroxylation reactions, which may lead to the formation of carcinogenic metabolites.
