Dehydrocostus lactone is a natural compound that belongs to the class of polymers. It is believed to be a polymer with the repeating unit of dextran sulfate. Dehydrocostus lactone has been shown to have minimal toxicity in mice and has been shown to reduce disease activity by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines that are involved in the inflammatory process. Dehydrocostus lactone also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to response elements on genes involved in inflammation, such as IL-6, G-CSF, CXCL1, and CXCL2.
