Diethoxydimethylsilane is a chemical compound that has been used as a reference material for thermal expansion. It has also been used in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, where it was detected with a detection sensitivity of 0.1 ppm. The kinetic energy of the reaction and the rate at which it occurs can be calculated using the structure of this compound. Diethoxydimethylsilane has been shown to react with water vapor and transport properties are dependent on the number of hydroxyl groups present in its basic structure. Diethoxydimethylsilane is synthesized by reacting methyl ethyl ketone with dimethoxyethane, which results in the formation of diethoxydimethylsilane and methoxyethanol. This reaction is facilitated by nitrogen atoms from ammonia or ammonium salts, such as ammonium chloride or ammonium sulfate.
