5,5-Dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide is a reactive compound that is produced during wastewater treatment. It also has the ability to scavenge nitrite ion, which is a common pollutant in wastewater. 5,5-Dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide can be used as a model system to study oxidative injury and the biological sample can be used to measure radical formation. This compound has been shown to have an antiinflammatory effect in mice with lps-induced inflammation. The thermodynamic data of this compound may be used as chemical inhibitors for nitrite ion reduction.
