Descrizione

4,5-Dicaffeoylquinic acid is a caffeoylquinic acid derivative that inhibits the activity of sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH) and has a hypoglycemic effect. SDH is an enzyme involved in the conversion of glucose to sorbitol in the glycolytic pathway. 4,5-Dicaffeoylquinic acid inhibits this enzyme and thus prevents the conversion of glucose to sorbitol. This inhibition leads to a decrease in blood sugar levels and ultimately causes cytotoxicity. 4,5-Dicaffeoylquinic acid also scavenges anion radicals by donating electrons, which may have antioxidant properties.
