Descrizione:4,4'-Dichloroazoxybenzene (4,4'-DAB) is a hydroxylase inhibitor that is used in the study of plant metabolism. It is a potent inducer of enzymes and has been shown to be a potent inducer of hydroxylases in plants. 4,4'-DAB inhibits the activity of nitrosoarenes by competing for the same enzyme binding site as chloride ions. The reaction mechanism for this process is not well understood but it appears that anilines are involved. The optimum pH for 4,4'-DAB is 7-8 and it is active against gram negative bacteria such as typhimurium with little effect on gram positive bacteria like Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus. This compound also has efficient methods of conjugation with functional groups or metals such as magnesium salts.
