4,4'-Dimethoxy-2'-hydroxychalcone (DMHC) is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and multidrug-resistant cells. DMHC is a potent inhibitor of the multidrug resistance-associated protein MRP1, which is involved in drug efflux. DMHC also inhibits the activity of other proteins involved in drug resistance, such as P-glycoprotein and breast cancer resistance protein. In addition, DMHC could be used as a potential therapeutic agent for cancer due to its ability to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells by inhibiting DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. This may be due to its ability to inhibit topoisomerases and phosphatases.
