Descrizione

2,6-Dimethoxyhydroquinone is a chemical that belongs to the class of hydroxyl compounds. It can be synthesized in one step from 2,6-dimethoxyphenol and hydrogen peroxide with p-hydroxybenzoic acid as an intermediate. The redox potential of 2,6-dimethoxyhydroquinone is higher than that of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and its reduction rate is faster. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of COX2 in rat liver microsomes. This chemical also inhibits the formation of cancer cells by inhibiting cell division. The synthesis pathway for 2,6-dimethoxyhydroquinone begins with 3-mercaptopropionic acid and then proceeds through methoxy groups and chromatographic reactions.
