Descrizione:3,4-Dihydroxybenzyl alcohol is a phenolic compound that is found in many plants and fruits. It has been shown to have photocatalytic activity and can be used as an alternative to other chemicals in the manufacture of plastics, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. 3,4-Dihydroxybenzyl alcohol also can act as a radical coupling agent for oxidizing tyrosine residues on proteins and enzymes. This compound has been shown to have antioxidant properties due to its hydroxyl group. 3,4-Dihydroxybenzyl alcohol is soluble in water and can be chromatographically separated into protocatechuic acid by using a solvent system with acetic acid or sodium acetate buffer pH 4.0.
