Dimethylmalononitrile is an organic compound with the formula CH3CN. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature and reacts readily with most reagents. Dimethylmalononitrile can be used in the synthesis of various types of chemicals, including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and dyes. Dimethylmalononitrile reacts with aryl boronic acids to form imines that can undergo Suzuki coupling reactions to make a variety of compounds. The reaction with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid leads to the formation of organofluorine compounds. It also has been shown to react with cb2 cannabinoid receptors in cells, which may lead to its use as a control agent for obesity or other disorders related to cb2 receptor activity.
