4,5-Dihydro-2-phenyloxazole is a hydrogen bond donor and a cationic polymerization catalyst. It can be used as a hydrochloric acid scavenger or an electrolyte in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. 4,5-Dihydro-2-phenyloxazole is also used to synthesize fatty acids by transfer reactions with hydrogen chloride. The compound has an acidic character and activates at group P2 of the periodic table. It can form coordination complexes with metals such as copper, nickel, and zinc. 4,5-Dihydro-2-phenyloxazole has been shown to have reactive sites on its structure that are susceptible to electrospray ionization quadrupole mass spectrometry (ESI/QMS).
