Difluoromethane is a hydrofluorocarbon that has a high redox potential and is chemically inert. It does not react with hydrogen fluoride, which makes it an ideal refrigerant for use in the chemical industry. Difluoromethane is used in the production of polymers, pharmaceuticals, and solvents.
