Descrizione:Diethylstilbestrol (DES) is a synthetic, nonsteroidal estrogen that is used to treat breast cancer and other estrogen-dependent conditions. DES binds to the estrogen receptor and acts as an agonist. It has minimal liver toxicity and is not metabolized by the body because it is rapidly excreted in urine. DES can be synthesized from benzyl chloride and diethylstolbesterol. This process requires two steps: first, benzyl chloride reacts with diethylstilbesterol to form a triazene intermediate; second, treatment of the triazene intermediate with hydrogen chloride yields DES.
