3,5,7,2',6'-Pentahydroxyflavanone is a flavonoid that has been found to have a variety of biological properties. It has been shown to be reactive with proteins and nucleic acids. 3,5,7,2',6'-Pentahydroxyflavanone also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as a medicine for cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension. This compound is obtained from the herb Scutellariae radix or Scutellaria baicalensis. The biosynthesis of 3,5,7,2',6'-Pentahydroxyflavanone is not well understood but it can be detected in the blood plasma of animals by using magnetic resonance spectroscopy assays.
