Elaidic acid is a fatty acid that is naturally present in the form of cis-isomers in animal fats. Elaidic acid has been shown to have lactogenic effects, which may be due to its ability to bind to the toll-like receptor 4 and activate the response element. It also inhibits the transcriptional activation of PPARγ by binding to the response element. Elaidic acid can also induce lipid accumulation in adipocytes and inhibit lipolysis. Elaidic acid has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory activities, which are due to its ability to inhibit NF-κB activation by blocking IKK activity.
