Ethyl 2-(dibenzylamino)acetate is a natural compound that is obtained by debenzylation of dibenzyl amine. It is used as a synthetic intermediate for the production of ethyl esters, which are used in the manufacture of perfumes and flavors. Ethyl 2-(dibenzylamino)acetate has also been shown to have biological properties in humans and animals, such as its ability to react with nucleophiles and form a trifluoromethyl group. This compound has also been used in asymmetric synthesis.
