Ethyl 3-cyclopropyl-3-oxopropanoate is a solvent that is used in pharmaceutical and chemical syntheses. It is an organic compound that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. HMG-CoA reductase catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, which is necessary for cholesterol production. Inhibition of this enzyme will reduce the production of cholesterol, leading to lower levels of lipid in the blood. This compound has also been shown to inhibit tyrosine kinase and pyridine compounds.
