Ethyl 2-chloro-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylate is a white solid that is soluble in organic solvents. It is a synthetic amide with an orthorhombic structure, and can be accessed by the reaction of aniline and nitroethane. Ethyl 2-chloro-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylate has pharmacological activity, which includes antibacterial activity against sulfonanilides. The conformation of this compound is determined by the substituents on the benzene ring, as well as by the hydroxy group and the methyl group. This compound also has some resonance properties due to its electron delocalization from the nitrogen atom to other atoms in the molecule.
