7-Ethoxycoumarin is a chemical that belongs to the group of phenolic compounds. It is used in toxicity studies to monitor the effects of chemicals on biochemical properties and enzyme activities. 7-Ethoxycoumarin has been shown to inhibit the cytochrome P450, which is an enzyme that is involved in drug metabolism. This inhibition prevents the formation of toxic metabolites, thereby minimizing adverse effects. 7-Ethoxycoumarin can also be used as a fluorescent probe for detecting collagen gel degradation by measuring fluorescence intensity over time. The fluorescence intensity increases with increased degradation of the collagen gel.
