Descrizione:Etiracetam is an antiepileptic drug that is used in the treatment of epilepsy. It is a chiral compound, which means it has two different forms that are mirror images of each other. Etiracetam binds to the enzyme gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor, blocking the binding of GABA and inhibiting its effect on postsynaptic neurons. This drug also inhibits protein transport and interacts with drugs such as levetiracetam and phenytoin, which may lead to adverse effects or toxicity. Etiracetam has shown efficacy in treating specific types of epilepsy such as myoclonic astatic epilepsy and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, but not generalized epilepsy.
