• Descrizione: 2-Ethylheptanoic acid is a vasodilator that is used to treat hypertension. It is an enantiomer of the more common 2-ethylhexanoic acid and has been shown to have pressor effects in vitro by inhibiting the enzyme angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). 2-Ethylheptanoic acid may be useful in the treatment of congestive heart failure because it prevents the accumulation of bradykinin, which can lead to renal dysfunction. The elimination rate of 2-ethylheptanoic acid may be reduced by hepatic impairment, so this drug should not be used if there is evidence of liver disease.2-Ethylheptanoic acid has been found to increase glomerular filtration rate and capillary permeability in humans with chronic kidney disease. This drug also has diacid properties and can act as an ester hydrochloride when administered orally.
