Descrizione

Embelin is a natural compound that is found in the bark of a tree called "Dryobalanops aromatica". It has been shown to have hypoglycemic effect on experimental animals and to reduce bowel disease. Embelin may be effective against infectious diseases, such as HIV-1, because it inhibits the production of energy in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. This compound also has significant cytotoxicity against hl-60 cells and can inhibit the enzyme activity of protein kinase C. Molecular docking analysis suggests that embelin binds to ATP binding site of hl-60 cells by forming hydrogen bonds with Asp-141 and Thr-150 residues.
