3-Formyl-5-methoxypyridine (3FMP) is a potent apoptosis inducer that can be used in the treatment of cancer. 3FMP induces apoptosis by inhibiting DNA synthesis and protein synthesis, leading to cell death. 3FMP has been shown to induce apoptosis in vitro in human breast cancer cells and in vivo in mice with implanted human prostate tumors. The molecular structure of 3FMP is hydrophobic, which may account for its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. 3FMP has been shown to be a potent compound against many types of cancer cells, including those resistant to radiation therapy.
