4-Fluoro-3-methylbenzoic acid is a synthetic compound that inhibits the 5-HT1A receptor. It has been shown to have a high affinity for this receptor and can be used for the treatment of anxiety disorders. 4-Fluoro-3-methylbenzoic acid is metabolized through the metabolic pathway, yielding an amide. This active form is a potent 5-HT1A receptor antagonist and can be used to treat anxiety disorders. The profile of 4-fluoro 3-methyl benzoic acid in rats has been shown to stimulate the release of fibrinogen, which may be due to its effect on platelets. The reaction mechanism of 4-fluoro 3 methyl benzoic acid is not fully understood but it may act as an agonist at the 5HT1A receptor or as an antagonist at other serotonin receptors.
