Descrizione:Fluvalinate is an insecticide that is used to control mites on bees and other pollinators. It inhibits the production of creatine kinase, which is essential for energy production in muscle cells. Fluvalinate also binds to odorant binding proteins, preventing their ability to bind to odorants. Chronic exposure to fluvalinate results in a molecular response that leads to chronic oral toxicity. This response can be inhibited by detoxification enzymes such as glutathione S-transferases, cytochrome P450s, and esterases. The acute toxicity of fluvalinate has been shown in beekeepers who were not wearing gloves when applying the toxin. This group experienced sublethal doses of fluvalinate that led to reduced activity, tremors, and impaired coordination. Analytical methods have been developed for the determination of fluvalinate residues in honey using gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (GC-MS).
