Descrizione:Formamidine hydrochloride is a white powder that is soluble in water and ethanol. It has potent effects on the central nervous system, and can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent. Formamidine hydrochloride has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in experimental animals by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. It also inhibits the formation of the dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) required for lipid peroxidation, thereby protecting cells from oxidative stress. The drug is metabolized by ester hydrolysis to formamidine, which is then excreted in urine unchanged or as formaldehyde. Formamide can also be converted to formaldehyde via oxidation with hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals. Hydrogen bonding interactions between formamide and nucleotides are responsible for its inhibition of DNA synthesis and protein synthesis.
