3-Fluorophenylacetonitrile is a laboratory chemical that is used as a starting material in the synthesis of 3-fluorophenylimidazole, which has been shown to have receptor modulating properties. The microwave irradiation of 3-fluorophenylacetonitrile in acetic acid leads to the formation of an analogous compound with higher yields and enhanced stability. The allosteric interactions between 3-fluorophenylacetonitrile and its analogous compound are also observed in vivo, where both compounds exhibit receptor modulating activity. This data may be useful for the development of new drugs that target G protein coupled receptors.
