Fmoc-Ala-Ala-OH is a synthetic amino acid that is used in organic synthesis. It has been used to prepare cyclic peptides with lysine residues for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Fmoc-Ala-Ala-OH is soluble in acidic environments and can be synthesized at reaction temperatures below 0 ˚C, making it suitable for solid-phase synthesis. In biological studies, Fmoc-Ala-Ala-OH has been shown to have anticancer effects against human cancer cells by causing frameshifting and inhibiting protein synthesis. Fmoc-Ala-Ala-OH also binds to disulfide bonds between cysteine residues in proteins, which may account for its antimicrobial properties.
