This compound is soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone. O-Fluorobenzyl alcohol has been used as an analytical reagent for the determination of protonated molecules such as phenols or carbohydrates. It also has cytotoxic properties, which have been shown to be effective against cancer cells. O-Fluorobenzyl alcohol acts as a γ-secretase inhibitor by binding to the catalytic site of the enzyme, preventing proteolytic cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP) and subsequent production of amyloid β peptide (Aβ).
