2-Fluorofluorene is a chemical compound that has been synthesized by the reduction of diphenylmethane with borohydride. The synthesis was carried out at low temperatures in the presence of a catalyst, such as sodium borohydride. The use of a flow reactor and mass spectrometric detection techniques enabled the reaction to be monitored and controlled, which led to a higher yield and purity of product. The temperature was maintained at -78°C, with an acetonitrile flow rate of 0.4 mL/min and a mass spectrometric detection for monitoring the reaction. A cryogenic technique was used to cool the reactor, which resulted in slower reactions and increased productivity.
