Descrizione:Fluoromethotrexate is a drug that is used to treat cancer. It inhibits the growth of cells by interfering with the synthesis of DNA and RNA. Fluoromethotrexate prevents the formation of new cells by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which converts dihydrofolate into tetrahydrofolate. This leads to reduced levels of DNA precursors, such as thymidine and purine, which are necessary for DNA synthesis. Fluoromethotrexate binds to monoclonal antibody-coated implants in order to prevent infection or rejection after surgery or other invasive procedures. The frequency and duration of treatment depend on the type and stage of cancer being treated. For example, patients with bladder cancer may be given five doses over a period of two weeks while those with breast cancer may be given three doses over a period of two weeks.
