- 5-Fluorobenzimidazole
6-Fluoro-1H-benzimidazole is a corrinoid analog that has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against tumor cells in vitro. 6-Fluoro-1H-benzimidazole binds to the active site of purine nucleoside phosphorylase, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of purines, and inhibits the production of ATP. This agent also inhibits some viruses such as herpes simplex virus (HSV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and vaccinia virus. 6-Fluoro-1H-benzimidazole can be used as an antifungal agent against Candida albicans and other yeast species. It is also used in pharmacokinetic studies for drugs with hydrophobic properties.
