Glaucocalyxin A also induces oxidative injury by increasing the mitochondrial membrane potential and reducing the amount of ATP produced by mitochondria. In addition, this compound has been shown to possess anti-cancer properties and may be used as an anticancer drug. Glaucocalyxin A enhances the production of pro-apoptotic protein Bax and inhibits growth factor-β1 (GF-β1), which is a cytokine that regulates cellular proliferation and differentiation.
