Ganoderic acid D2 is a reactive, radical scavenging compound with antioxidant properties. It has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in animal models of Parkinson’s disease and chromatographic techniques on human erythrocytes. Ganoderic acid D2 also has anticancer activity and is able to inhibit telomerase activity by binding to the DNA template. In addition, ganoderic acid D2 inhibits the production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). This extract also blocks cell proliferation induced by growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) or epidermal growth factor (EGF).
